As a classical music teacher, paramedic, and firefighter with Birmingham Fire and Rescue Services (BFRS), Ahmun Miles has found a calling in two fields—both allowing her to help others.

For Ahmun Miles, music started long before Piamistry—it started at home. She first touched the piano at just 3 years old, inspired by her older brother and parents who believed there should always be an instrument in the house. Before long, Ahmun picked up the rhythmic, feel-good melodies she heard her brother playing and found her own way around the keys.

That sibling inspiration eventually turned into the two playing side-by-side at Birmingham’s Community Primitive Baptist Church. Those early experiences helped shape Ahmun’s love for the piano and eventually led her to classical music.

At 13, Ahmun began formal piano lessons to learn to read music and strengthen her performance skills. As her musicianship grew, so did her desire to share music with others. She began performing at community events and volunteering her talents at Children’s of Alabama, UAB, elementary schools, summer camps, and nursing homes. Those experiences—especially playing for children and older adults—helped inspire the vision that would eventually become Piamistry School of Music.

Along the way, Ahmun continued developing as both a pianist and educator. She studied with Young Musical Geniuses of Birmingham, studied Music Theory and Performance at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), and became affiliated with the Birmingham Music Teachers Association and National Federation of Music Clubs, earning multiple Gold and Silver Cups through federation events. In 2018, she was also recognized as an Educational Partner by Steinway & Sons and was named Lecturer of the Year at Samford University in 2023. Piamistry has also collaborated with UAB, offering group instruction through UAB ArtPlay Community Art Center.

Today, Ahmun brings those experiences into Piamistry with one goal: to make learning piano engaging, creative, and memorable.
